If your MLS rejects a photo, start with the exact upload error. Pixel dimensions, file size and file type describe different things; changing the wrong one may reduce quality without fixing the problem. Keep the original QwikVid download and make changes to a copy.
Find your MLS photo requirements
Use your MLS's current upload instructions or ask your brokerage. There is no single photo size that applies to every MLS. Check:
- Accepted file formats, such as JPEG, and whether a ZIP archive must be extracted first.
- Minimum and maximum width and height in pixels, any aspect-ratio requirement, and maximum file size in MB.
- Photo-count limits, ordering and cover-photo settings.
- Rules for branding, watermarks, virtual staging and other image changes.
Start with the downloaded photo file
Use the download options on your QwikVid order. A screenshot, thumbnail or image saved from a listing preview may be smaller than the delivered file. If the download is a ZIP archive, extract it and select individual images for upload.
Check whether the download meets your destination's requirements. If you need a larger original, ask whether high-resolution files are included or available for your order. Enlarging a small file does not restore missing detail.
Match the error to the fix
“File too large”
Check the limit in MB. Export a copy with adjusted JPEG quality or smaller pixel dimensions while staying above the MLS's minimum dimensions. Compare the exported image at full size before uploading; do not repeatedly compress your only original.
“Image too small” or “Invalid dimensions”
Check width and height in pixels, not just the size in MB. Download an appropriate larger version if available. If the image exceeds a maximum dimension, reduce it while preserving proportions. Our resizing guide explains the steps.
“Unsupported file type”
Confirm you selected a supported image rather than a ZIP, PDF or video. If conversion is required, use an image editor's export function. Renaming a file extension does not convert the image.
The image uploads but looks stretched, cropped or blurry
Compare the original, exported copy and MLS preview. Keep the aspect ratio locked when resizing. If a different crop is required, crop a copy intentionally instead of stretching the room. Check whether the MLS is displaying a thumbnail before assuming the underlying file is damaged.
The upload stalls or fails without a clear error
Try one supported photo first. Confirm your sign-in is still active and use a browser supported by the MLS. Save unsaved listing changes before reloading. If a compliant image continues to fail, contact the MLS help desk with the time, browser and error details.
Check the published listing
Review the cover image, photo order, orientation and crops. If you replaced a photo, check the full-size view as well as its thumbnail. Follow the MLS's guidance on processing time and downstream website updates.
